I'm talking about you zilly

She could barely hear the pouring rain over the sound of her own breathing. She was exhausted, and every move she made burned like scalding hot water on her skin as she ran in the dark, stumbling over the ground she could not see. She had fallen more times then she could recall; and still did not slow her pace. She had to get away at all costs even if it killed her. She had been gouged, and slapped, and whipped by the branches and twigs; yet the pain did not faze her. All she wanted was to find safety, a place where she could tend to her wounds and rest her battered and broken body. As she fell to the muddy ground she felt her hopes to escape dwindle away so she lay where she fell, finally giving in and letting her will to run fade away into the darkness. She could see the light of the moon peering down through a gap in the clouds and for a brief moment saw her surroundings. The pale moonlight uncovered what seemed to be the mouth of a cave; and so she proceeded to drag herself along the ground and up the rocky face to where the entrance lay in wait for her. As the moon disappeared again, she crawled in, feeling that her flight from terror was over and safety had been found. The entrance was extremely small, with just enough space for her to slide in. She could feel the coarse stone cut her as she proceeded inward. With her last bit of strength she pulled herself into what must have been a larger room; she could only guess because there was no light. As her consciousness faded, she knew that she would be safe for the time being.
She wakened in the dark to a pain in her body unlike any pain she had ever experienced. She had no way of seeing how cut up she really was, and could only feel the spots where the throbbing was coming from, in an attempt to estimate the severity of the gashes she had received. She could not hear the rain and so assumed it had stopped. As time passed, instinct told her it would be best to venture out and see if she could familiarize herself with her surrounding, but she was uncertain as to where the entrance was located. As she felt her way along the rock face, she could not see anything in the dark, and so was unable to locate the way she had entered. Though she was in great discomfort she pushed on, trying to find something that resembled an opening; but as time progressed she became so disoriented that she sat down again. The room seemed immensely large, and slowly as she lay alone in the dark a feeling of panic set in. She was lost in the cave with no food, no water, and no form of light. When she stood again and tried in vain to find the small opening where she had squeezed through, some hours earlier; but she could find no such opening. She began to cry and scream; but the sound of her cries echoing off the walls drove her to near hysteria. She stumbled along the walls wishing only to get out and see the light of day. Then she slipped and began to slide along a steep grade. She tried to hold onto something to stop her from sliding but could not and felt herself falling. This was the end, she thought, and screamed in horror in anticipation of hitting the ground. As she felt the sting of cold water closing over her head, she quickly swam to the surface ; but without the ability to see, it was impossible to judge how large it was or which direction would lead her to shore. She began to swim hoping that she would find something to climb onto to get out of what must be an underground lake of some sort. Her thoughts were racing faster than she could comprehend and she was shivering as she drew on her remaining strength to swim, but without knowing how far she had to go she began to think of giving in to the ever strengthening urge to let herself be pulled under the water. She pushed the feelings of defeat aside and thought only of her goal to make the safety of the rocks again. She almost laughed as she thought how she would rather be back in the first cave where she was at least dry, and didn’t have to swim. The water was extremely cold and she knew if she didn’t make it to land soon she would surely succomb to hypothermia. At last her foot struck ground and her cries of relief echoed throughout the cavern. She pulled herself from the icy water and onto what felt like sand. She quickly removed her clothing and fell onto the grainy surface, which felt like silk on her skin. It was warm and soothing and soon her shivering stopped as a feeling of peace and tranquility passed over her, like a warm wind coming off the sea. Yet one thought persisted in her mind, one nagging question to which she had no answer.
“Who am I ? she cried out loud; and passed once again into consciounceness.
You really like it? I haven’t written a story in so long I wasn't sure if I was getting it right. I just finished the second half; though, I still need to proof read it (which I am no good at; I need a proof reader) and there are also a few revisions I would like to make.
